When applying to China to be an English Teacher - there are 3 main documents to consider and prepare. You will need hard copies of your TEFL/TESOL certificate, Degree and Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). Each document has various departments within South Africa that it needs to go to (SAQA, High Court, Law Firm, DIRCO, Chinese Embassy).
Your TEFL/TESOL certificate hardcopy must go to a Law Firm to be notarized. Once this is done, your document (TEFL/TESOL) must go to the High Court to be Apostilled. Once this is done, your document must go to DIRCO to be authenticated.
Your Degree hardcopy must go to SAQA to be verified. Once this is done, your document (Degree) must go to DIRCO to be authenticated.
You need to Apply for a PPC (Police Clearance Certificate) at your nearest local police station. Once this is done, your document (PCC) must go to DIRCO to be authenticated.
Once your 3 documents have returned from DIRCO - You take your 3 documents PLUS a Notification of Work Permit (a letter from the school that you will be working for in China), then you take these 4 documents to the Chinese Visa Center in Sandton and apply for your Z- Visa.
This greatly depends on where you are flying from and where you are flying to In China. For example, if you are to fly from Cape Town, South Africa to Shenzhen, China on a 'one-way' flight - the flight will cost 4330RMB(Return flights =9400RMB). Please keep in mind that all schools REIMBURSE their teachers. This amount changes based upon each school- but the average flight reimbursement is 5000RMB to 12000RMB per year and is paid to the teacher at the end of their contract.

This answer greatly depends on which tier city that you are renting in but for example, in a tier 1 city like Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen rent in a shared apartment can vary between 2500 RMB to 3500 RMB. Additionally having your own studio can cost you around 3500 to 4,000 RMB and a 1 bedroom in a modern building costing you roughly 4500RMB per month and higher. If you go to a tier 2 or tier 3 city the cost of living in China will drop accordingly.

This answer will vary from teacher to teacher, as not everyone has the same spending habits or lifestyle choices, however an average teacher in China can expect to spend 30%-40% of their salary on ALL expenses (rent, transport, food, leisure activities, gifts) and should save/invest about 50%-60% of their monthly salary.
